What is JEE Advanced Exam?

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and the Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE), New Delhi introduced the national level common entrance exam called Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). JEE will be conducted by the JEE Apex Board for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions. The Joint Entrance Exam will be conducted in two parts, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. JEE (Main) replaces the AIEEE entrance exam and JEE (Advanced) replaced the IIT-JEE entrance exam from 2017. The aim of the common entrance test has been mooted to reduce stress on students., who have to appear for multiple entrance examinations and to give greater relevance to the school education, especially the class 12 board examinations.

JEE Advanced is conducted every year by the seven Zonal Coordinating (ZC) IITs under the main guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). JEE Advanced is conducted on a national-level for candidates seeking admission in Engineering and Architecture courses offered at ISM (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad and IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). JEE Advanced is an online exam taken after JEE Mains, by only those candidates who qualify the JEE Main exam and feature in the list of top 2.25 lakh candidates.

JEE Advanced Age Criteria

The age criteria for JEE Advanced 2021 is as follows -

  • Open category candidates whose date of birth is on or after 1st Oct. 1996, will be eligible to appear for the examination.
  • For the Reserved category, candidates have been exempted by 5 years i.e., Scheduled Tribe (ST) Scheduled Caste (SC) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD). These candidates have to be born on or after 1st October 1991.
JEE Advanced 2021 Application Form

Candidates who have qualified the JEE Main exam can register and appear for JEE Advanced 2021 examination. Candidates will be able to register for JEE Advanced 2021 exam through the official website where the JEE Advanced admit card will also be published. The application form will not be accepted by courier or post. It is necessary that prior to filling the application form for JEE Advanced 2021, candidates take a look at JEE Advanced eligibility criteria and instructions so that the form can be filled correctly.

Registration Procedure:
  • Candidates should register through the online portal, i.e. jeeadv.nic.in
  • Once logged in, candidates should provide details such as the medium of the question paper language (English or Hindi), the choices of the examination centre.
  • Also, aspirants should enter JEE Main Roll number, email address, Mobile number, and D.O.B to access the JEE Advanced application form.
  • The candidate will have the option of adding another mobile number above the number given during JEE Main registration.
  • The JEE Advanced 2021 result will be provided to the candidates on one of these numbers by text message.

After providing all the requisite information, the next step is to upload the scanned copies of the documents:

Pay Registration Fee of JEE Advanced 2021:
  • The JEE Advanced registration fee can be paid either online or offline.
  • In online mode, the fee payment can be done through net banking or debit card only. Please note no credit card can be used to make the payment.
  • In offline mode, the payment can be done through SBI bank e- challan.
  • Please note the candidates' registration fee is neither refundable nor transferable.

JEE Advanced 2021 Admit Card (Released)

All the candidates who will be appearing for JEE Advanced 2021 must note that the admit card of JEE Advanced 2021 is an important document which they must carry to the examination centre as without the JEE Advanced 2021 admit card, they will not be allowed inside the examination hall. The admit card mentions the name, roll number, category, date of birth, venue details where the exam is scheduled to be conducted and instructions for the exam day. Discrepancy in JEE Advanced Admit Card 2021

JEE Advanced 2021 Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced 2021 Exam Pattern provides details about the total number of questions, time duration, marking scheme, different subjects, and sections. While no other changes have been introduced in the JEE Advanced exam pattern, the only change announced by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) is that the exam will be conducted in a computer-based format.

This exam is taken after JEE Main exam by only those candidates who qualify the JEE Main exam. Only the top 2.24 lakh candidates in JEE Main exam become eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

Features of JEE Advanced Exam Pattern 2021
  • The exam is divided into two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 of three hours (180 minutes) duration each.
  • Both Paper 1 and 2 are compulsory for JEE Advanced.
  • Paper 1 will carry a total of 48 questions.
  • Paper 2 will carry 46 questions
  • Maximum marks for Paper 1 is 168
  • Maximum marks for Paper 2 is 174
  • The question paper consists of multiple-choice and numerical answer type questions, which test the comprehension skills, analytical and reasoning abilities of candidates.
  • Candidates must carry a Blue or Black ballpoint pen only to the examination centre.
  • There is negative marking for both papers 1 and 2.
  • In numerical type questions, negative marking is not applicable.
  • The questions come from the topics covered in class 11 and class 12.
  • Each question paper consists of three separate sections and subjects:

JEE Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) exam will be organised for the those who wish to get admission in the B.Arch. programme. Those who pass the JEE Advanced 2021 exam, only they will be eligible to appear for JEE AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test) exam.
